Another thread gave me the idea for this one and I'm bored as hell.

Just looking at some issues and wondering what your stance was. I mean I have a good idea about where most of you stand(left or right), but on some issues, about whats going currently in the US and maybe some random questions.


1) What's your take on the new healthcare reform? Obama plans to introduce a much needed pubilc option into play - thoughts?

2) The minimum wage increased friday, up to $7.25 per hour? Do you agree with it? I definitely do.

3) Do you agree with Obama's tax plan? He hasn't increased taxes on anyone making less than 250k +, do you think that's a good change?

4) Who gives the most balanced news? CNN? Fox? MSNBC? I personally watch the Daily Show a lot for my news, I think Stewart is very fair even though he's pretty much a lib.

5) Legalize? Why or why not?

6) Did our founding fathers create the Christian Nation we live in today? Is this a Christian nation?

7) Prayer in school, or the way it is now the way it should be?

8) Do you think Carter was that bad and Reagan was that good, according to the way most perceive them? IMO Carter wasnt' half as bad as he's made out to be and Reaganomics did a dousy on us.

9) Do you think gay-marriage should be legal? Meaning, they aren't wanting to go into your churches, just the same rights as anyone else.

10) Do you think gays should be about to adopt? Would they be bad parents?

Well, there's some ones I am interested know what yall think. Answer em all, or maybe just a few that you have a lot to say about. They're pretty random, you're welcome to add some more, but please contribute in answering some of those. I encourage everyone to answer something...it doesn't have to be a mudslingging thread, it can be a long/informative/good for your soul debate. Its probably going to get a little heated, just don't go over the line and everything will be fine. Thought this might be a good idea for a thread in which every can join, because everyone on here has a strong opinion on at least one of those topics or one of their own.

1. Health care reform is an absolute must. I'm not pleased with the reform proposed. I'd actually like to see a compete scrapping of the current system and a switch to a single payer system like every other decent country in the world has.

4. None of those mentioned give "balanced" news. MSNBC is probably the worst of the lot. UPI, AP, Reuters would maybe be best answer?

6. Yes, this nation was founded on Christian principles and the founding fathers intended it that way. They wanted a freedom of religion to exist, but that was not intended to be a freedom from religion. Even Thomas Jefferson, who is now used as the poster boy for the opposing view made that clear in a number of letters, ie the ones to Dr. Benjamin Rush.

7. I'm old enough that when I went to school we had prayer. I don't remember a single person being harmed by it. I wouldn't want to see anyone forced or coerced into prayer, but the current trend towards intentional distancing from "Christian principles" is ridiculous and counter productive.

8. I moved out on my own during the early part of the Carter administration and then started a family during the early part of Reagan's. Carter was an idiot, there is no other way to put it. He was also a coward and our enemies knew it and took advantage of it again and again. IMO the current "spin" on the Reagan years is disgraceful. There was a reason he was the most popular president since Washington and there is a reason he still wins some polls for best president ever, much to the schagrin of many in the left leaning media and academia.

9. Same rights in some matters, legal marriage no, there needs to be some middle ground.

10. There needs to be a better screening process in some states for prospective adoptive parents, being gay should not eliminate anyone. Being unstable should. I know there is a great need for adoptive parents, but some states have loosened the reins too much.

12. No, I'm still glad we did what we did in Iraq. Troops would probably be coming out at some pace no matter who was president. Yeah, we need to withdraw in an intelligent manner.

15. I wouldn't call it "support" I don't have a "dog" in that fight. I would say that she has been the most unfairly treated person in the media for quite some time now. There is a major and glaring double standard at work.

19. Home schooling has proven itself IMO. There are bad cases, but there are bad cases that can be pointed out in our public schools too. I do think parents need to be extra sensitive to the need of their children to have outside activities though. Sex education, not really a bad idea in principle, hardly ever done properly.

20. I really wouldn't have a problem except that I think it might have a detrimental effect on battlefield effectiveness

I am an MSNBC fan, and it seems that during campaign 08 they were very biased for Obama, now they seem to play more neutral, I think CNN is a little more balanced overall

5) Legalize? Why or why not? If you are referring to cannabis, yes. Its about time that a few people in ties with money dictate what a citizen can do with a natural substance that has been on earth longer than man and been used by man since the dawn of time. Get rid of tobacco and legalize pot!

I agree carter took over from the Nixon years, when that big nozed bozo had rigged the 72 election to get his agenda through, it screwed us, carter didn't have a chance. Reganomics is still screwing us today, but with Clinton's 8 years and now Obama in, we are starting to recover, Regan overall was ok, but terrible financially, republicans have always been poor leaders when it comes to handling of capitol, look it up, proven fact, the economy sucked under reagan and both Bush's and was great under Clinton

- I think it's a really good idea, still parts of the actual plan that need to be worked on. I think a public option would definitely help those not covered and help with the cost of ones that already have it.

- MSNBC leans left for the most part and Fox leans right for the most part. There are a few commentators worst than others...Olberman, Maddow and Ed Schultz...then on Fox..O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, Van Sustran. And no matter how much I hear people say it, CNN is pretty much in the middle when it comes to the three.

Been over this before, no this isn't a Christian nation. What common laws has Christianity really influenced? I'd say there was a deist influence, which is what some of the Founding Fathers were.

It's exactly like it should be. The moment of silence to pray or not pray, teachers/administration have no right make anyone pray(lead a prayer)

Reagan was an average president for the most part, Carter wasn't...but was nowhere's near the worse.

Gotch, that has to be one of the biggest stretches I've seen. First, there's no "spin"..people were naive at the time and now realizing he wasn't as good as first thought. Secondly, he was the most popular president since Johnson probably...to say Washington is beyond ridiculous. Third, I've never seen one poll where he has been voted the best president ever..hell I've never seen him being put in the top 5 in any ranking. He's not even top 5 in the 20th century IMO. He's nowheres close to the "best ever" and it's laughable to any group that thinks so. He was average/slightly above in some aspects, he did us in with the debt among other things.

The first one actually only shows what you said. The second and third are best since WWII, not ever - and admit to being partisan because of the massive amount of pubs that voted for him. And the third puts Lincoln first, Reagan second. That proves some are still naive and again, it's laughable for anyone to put him ahead Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson etc. etc. If we were talking about rankings from actual historians, you won't see the lovefest and won't see him break the top 5 like the public. Hell Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Bush41 and Clinton all left office with higher approval ratings.

Carter wasn't half as bad as he's made out to be, it's timing more than anything. He tried to micromanage, he wasn't a good president, I'll give you that. But is responsible for the only lasting peace treaty in the Middle East and was completely right with his Alternative Energy plan, we can thank Reagan turning us back around and making it zero priority.

You didn't say if it was public or historian, I'm sure there were fools that think he was the best ever or top five...doesn't mean they are right. I'm just taking the word over historians than the public when it comes to that, one is a lot more informed than the other. Are we talking polls, like the public polls or historical rankings? I would guess that since most of the public that voted in the polls would know more/favor a president they actually lived through.


Teddy, FDR, Eisenhower, Truman, Kennedy were all better presidents the 20th Century..that's leaving out Johnson, Wilson and Clinton who weren't too shabby. It's about timing, Reagan gets the good rap and Carter doesn't because of timing for the most part. People tend to forget what he did to the debt, what he did to alternative energy and Iran Contra. Inflation had been rising for a decade when Carter took office, it peaked under his watch...there was no way he could have really dramatically changed the path to stop everything. Reagan benefited more from Carter than anyone realizes, Reagan reaped the good times.
